Nepal, Namibia establish bilateral relations

KATHMANDU: Nepal and Namibia have formally established diplomatic relations.

Minister for Affairs Shishir Khanal and Namibia’s Minister of International Relations and Trade Selma Ashipala Musavyi signed a Joint Communiqué to this effect in New York on Friday on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

Before signing the Joint Communiqué, the two foreign ministers held discussions on various matters of mutual interest, according to the foreign ministry. “They also held discussions on the human and physical losses caused by the devastating climate-induced disasters that recently struck Nepal,” the ministry added in the statement.

The two ministers stressed the need to explore new avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation and work together for the shared progress and prosperity of the two countries and their peoples.

Earlier, on September 14, Nepal established diplomatic relations with the Federated States of Micronesia. Permanent representatives of the two countries to the United Nations signed a Joint Communiqué to formalize the relations.
