Albanese meets PM Balendra Shah, says Australia stands with Nepali people

KATHMANDU: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said Australia stands with the Nepali people in their suffering and recovery following the devastating floods in Nepal.

After meeting Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Friday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Albanese expressed Australia’s deep sympathy for those affected by the floods in a social media post.

He said he conveyed Australia’s deep sympathy for the flood victims during the meeting and briefed Shah on the assistance Australia has provided so far.

Albanese also expressed his sympathy to the families and relatives of Australian citizens who remain unaccounted for following the floods.

“As Nepal recovers from catastrophic floods and devastation, Australia stands with its people as they rebuild and grieve,” he wrote. “Our thoughts remain with the families and loved ones of those Australians who are still missing.”

He said Australia would keep working with Nepal to get help where it’s needed most.
