KATHMANDU: European football will pay tribute to the victims of the devastating flash floods that struck Nepal on August 26.
According to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), a moment of silence will be held ahead of all UEFA Champions League matches this week.
“A moment of silence will be held, and a banner will be displayed as a sign of solidarity and support ahead of all UEFA Champions League matches this week,” the European football governing body said in a statement on Monday. “The banner will carry the message ‘You are not alone, Nepal’.”
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said the European football family would stand together to express its condolences and support for the people of Nepal.
“The entire European football family will stand together before this week’s matches to express our deepest condolences and our support to the people of Nepal,” Čeferin said. “We wish them strength and resilience as they continue to recover from this tragedy and its aftermath.”
