Nepse extends gains for fourth straight session; turnover rises to Rs 3.83 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its winning streak for a fourth straight session on Monday, closing 18.07 points higher at 2,560.84.

The index dipped to an intraday low of 2,542.46 within the first 15 minutes of trading. However, it recovered and hit an intraday high of 2,565.85 points. Although it pared some gains toward the close, it ended the session 0.71% higher.

The index has gained 47.42 points over the past four sessions.

Market breadth was positive on Monday, with 185 stocks advancing, 79 declining, and four remaining unchanged. Total turnover slightly improved to Rs 3.83 billion with 9.29 million units traded through 50,844 transactions.

Among individual stocks, Pure Energy hit the positive circuit of 15%. Next were Ganapati Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd and Shreenagar Agritech Industries Ltd with gains of 7.355 and 6.26%, respectively. On the other hand, two stocks, Emerging Nepal Ltd and Sindhu Bikash Bank Ltd, hit the 15% negative circuit. Janaki Finance Ltd also tanked 14.99%. Both Sindhu and Janaki, which are set to be acquired by Muktinath Bikas Bank Ltd, recorded significant declines on Monday.

Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd topped the turnover chart with total transactions worth Rs 252.16 million. Garima Bikas Bank Ltd and Solu Hydro Ltd followed, with turnovers of Rs 178.81 million and Rs 162.7 million, respectively.

Except for the Finance and the Trading sub-indices, which posted nominal losses, all remaining sub-indices ended in the green. The Non-life Insurance posted the biggest gain of 2.09%. Next were the Manufacturing & Processing and the Banking sub-indices, with gains of 1.24% and 1.15%, respectively.
