Chandrika Shrestha was rescued alive from the ruins of her four-story house on Saturday afternon.
KATHMANDU: The joint team that rescued a 64-year-old woman alive on Saturday—11 days after a devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River buried her home in Betrawati Bazaar of Bidur Municipality-10, Nuwakot—said the rescue was possible after security personnel heard someone calling for help from inside the debris.
Chandrika Shrestha, wife of Ananda Lal Shrestha, was rescued from the remains of their four-storey house on Saturday afternoon.
The team, led by Nepal Police Inspector Mahendra Darnal, had been searching the riverbank and damaged structures in Betrawati. Darnal said they heard a voice calling for help when they reached the rooftop of the house.
“We made a small hole in the wall and heard her calling for help,” he said. “We then broke through the wall and managed to rescue her.”
Chandrika was flown by a Nepal Army helicopter to the Nepali Army Hospital in Chhauni, Kathmandu, where she is receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, a search team rescued a Chinese national from the tunnel of the Upper Trishuli hydropower’s audit tunnel on Saturday afternoon.
A joint team of the Nepali Army and South Korea’s disaster response team successfully pulled the Chinese national out of the tunnel, according to Nepali Army Spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet.
