KATHMANDU: The death toll from the devastating Bhotekoshi floods has reached 1,259.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), rescue workers retrieved those bodies from the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli River corridor across eight districts.
However, only 95 of those bodies have been identified and handed over to the family members.
The latest situation update released by the NDRRMA shows 355 bodies were recovered in Chitwan, 218 in Nawalparasi East, 212 in Nawalparasi West, 177 in Nuwakot, 127 in Rasuwa, 72 in Gorkha, 60 in Dhading and 38 in Tanahun.
Similarly, 5,083 people are missing. The number includes 2,130 reported missing in Rasuwa and 2,340 in Nuwakot as well as 583 foreign nationals.
According to the latest update, 12,038 have been rescued so far, while 5,384 injured have been treated.
Likewise, a total of 3,844 are taking refuge at different holding centers in Nuwakot, Dhading and Rasuwa.
