KATHMANDU: The death toll from the catastrophic floods that struck Rasuwa and neighboring districts has climbed to 1,114, according to the latest update from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) released on Wednesday morning.
Teams operating across the Trishuli River corridor have retrieved bodies from eight districts. As per the recent update, rescue workers have recovered 348 bodies in Chitwan, 217 bodies in Nawalparasi East, 190 in Nawalparasi West, 155 in Nuwakot, 66 in Gorkha, 59 in Dhading, 41 in Rasuwa, and 38 in Tanahun.
Out of the total recovered bodies, only 95 have been formally identified and handed over to their respective families.
Similarly, 3,916 individuals have gone out of contact after the disaster. Those out of contact include local residents, government officials, security personnel, local representatives, foreign nationals, Nepali citizens accompanying foreign tourists, and workers employed at various hydropower project sites.
According to the NDRRMA, 3,453 flood-hit people are residing in temporary holding centers. A total of 2,466 people are residing in holding centers in Nuwakot, 398 in Rasuwa, 329 in Kathmandu and 260 in Dhading.
