Bhotekoshi flood death toll rises to 939; 3,925 missing

KATHMANDU: The death toll from the catastrophic Bhotekoshi River floods has climbed to 939.

According to the latest official situation report released by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), search and recovery operations are underway across downstream riverbanks.

Latest data show 279 bodies were recovered in Chitwan, 216 in Nawalparasi East and 168 in Nawalparasi West. Additionally, search teams have located 95 bodies in Nuwakot, 65 in Gorkha, 55 in Dhading, 38 in Tanahun and 23 in Rasuwa.

Likewise, nearly 3,925 are missing. According to District Emergency Operation Center data, around 1,558 people are missing in Nuwakot and 865 in Rasuwa. The missing list also includes 639 workers from various hydropower projects, 592 foreign nationals and 164 Nepalis accompanying foreign tour groups.

Likewise, 45 Nepali Army personnel, 25 Nepal Police personnel, 13 Armed Police Force personnel and 15 customs office staff. Three staff each from the immigration office, quarantine office and the Langtang National Park Office are also missing.
