Disaster incidents claim 15 lives in Rolpa in two days

KATHMANDU: At least 15 people died in Rolpa over the past two days due to different disaster incidents.

Inspector Krishna Shrestha, information officer at the District Police Office, Rolpa, told Himal Press over the phone that 10 people were killed in a landslide in Thabang on Wednesday night, while four others died in a landslide in Sunchahari Rural Municipality on Thursday night. “Another person died after being struck by lightning in Khadar of Lungri Rural Municipality-1,” Shrestha added.

A landslide buried two houses in Phalbang of Sunchhahari Rural Municipality-2 on Thursday night. According to Shrestha, the deceased have been identified as Bir Bahadur Gharti Magar (77), Shani Gharti Magar (68), Lali Gharti Magar (70) and Lami Gharti Magar (64).

Earlier on Wednesday night, 10 people died when a landslide buried 11 structures in Kotalabara of Thabang Rural Municipality-5. Three are still missing.

Meanwhile, Nepali Communist Party (NCP) leader and member of the House of Representatives from Rolpa, Barsha Man Pun, met Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Friday and urged the government to step up efforts to rescue those still missing.

Pun also called for prompt medical treatment for the injured and compensation for the families of those killed in the disasters.

He urged the government to ensure long-term rehabilitation for families affected by the disasters.
