Why Jana Astha editor Kishor Shrestha was arrested?

KATHMANDU: Kishor Shrestha, editor of Jana Aastha weekly and its online portal, was arrested on Wednesday evening by a joint team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and the District Police Range, Kathmandu.

According to a detention notice issued by the District Police Range, Kathmandu, the 55-year-old journalist, a resident of Jhamsikhel in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-3, was taken into custody based on a formal complaint filed against him by Dipika Singh.

Shrestha was arrested from the Kusunti area in Lalitpur on Wednesday evening after police obtained an arrest warrant from the Kathmandu District Court. Following his arrest, police formally issued a detention warrant notifying him that he would be held in custody for further investigation into the privacy-violation charges filed against him.

He is currently being held at the District Police Range, Kathmandu.

A few days ago, Jana Aastha had published a report on its online edition, showing a photo allegedly depicting Singh kissing RSP lawmaker Amar Kant Chaudhary.

Singh has claimed that her photograph was manipulated and falsely linked to Chaudhary to create confusion and spread misinformation on social media.
