KATHMANDU: The Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) has taken legal action against dozens of recruitment agencies for sending Nepali migrant workers abroad via foreign airports without prior authorization.

Issuing a notice, the DoFE said 39 companies have been fined Rs 50,000 each for violating provisions included in the Foreign Employment Act, 2007.

Under Section 22 of the Foreign Employment Act, licensed foreign employment agencies are legally required to use domestic airports when sending workers abroad. To monitor compliance, the Department had requested flight details from the agencies for workers sent for foreign employment between mid-March and mid-June.

After studying the details, the DoFE found that 39 agencies used Indian airports to send workers without authorization.

Similarly, the DoFE has slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 each on 124 companies that failed to provide flight details for the period.
