Govt should take private sector into confidence to expand digital economy: Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the government should move forward by taking the private sector into confidence to develop and expand the digital economy.

Speaking at an interaction on “Digital Economy: Local Employment and Access to the Global Market” held at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Sunday, Thapa said the government must adopt high ambitions in this sector and trust the private sector’s capacity.

“The government should abandon the mindset that it alone knows everything. Rather, it should recognize the expertise of the private sector and the dynamism of the market,” he added.

Thapa also said the digital economy holds the potential to become the backbone of Nepal’s economy. “It should be developed as a shared national agenda rather than the priority of any single political party,” he said.

On the occasion, he said that preparations were underway to immediately provide lawmakers with necessary materials and research reports to make parliamentary discussions on this issue more effective.
