Curfew lifted in Golbazar of Siraha

KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office (DAO), Siraha, has lifted the curfew imposed in Golbazar Municipality following an improvement in the security situation.

In a notice issued on Sunday, the DAO Siraha said the decision was taken after reviewing the latest security situation in the municipality. “The curfew order has been lifted with effect from 7 pm on Sunday in accordance with Section 6(9A) of the Local Administration Act, 1971,” the notice, issued by Chief District Officer Surendra Paudel, said.

The curfew had been imposed from 2 pm on Thursday after locals took to the street to protest police firing in Sunsari on Sunday night. Ganesh Yadav (17) of Tulsipur in Aurahi Rural Municipality-2 died when the curfew was in place.

During the unrest, protesters set fire to AB Mall, more than a dozen private houses and shops in Golbazar, as well as 20 motorcycles and an autorickshaw.

Yadav’s family accepted his body after Minister for Home Affairs Sudhan Gurung reached the incident site and assured the family of a fair investigation. The minister also announced a compensation of Rs 1 million for the bereaved family and expressed commitment to provide employment for one member of the family.
