Chief Election Commissioner, Commissioners assume office

KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner Man Bahadur Karki, and Election Commissioners Guru Prasad Wagle and Rajiv Subba assumed office at the Election Commission (EC) on Friday.

The first meeting of the EC following their appointment decided to prepare a draft of the Integrated Election Management Regulations in line with the Integrated Election Management Bill, which is currently under consideration in the federal parliament.

The EC also decided to prepare a concept paper on the use of modern information technology in elections in line with public expectations and to launch a special program to make the voter roll error-free, updated and more reliable, according to EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.

Speaking after assuming office, Chief Election Commissioner Karki urged EC officials to effectively fulfill the EC’s responsibility of conducting free, fair, impartial, fearless and inclusive elections. He also instructed employees to maximize the use of information technology to improve service delivery, strictly adhere to the employees’ code of conduct, and carry out their duties with high morale, professionalism and accountability.
