PM urges lawmakers from Madhesh to engage with people in their constituencies

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that the government was working in a planned manner to resolve the recent sensitive situation in Sunsari and other affected districts.

During a meeting with lawmakers from the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) from Madhesh Province on Friday, he said all state agencies had been mobilized with heightened vigilance to take the situation under control. He also urged the public to remain calm.

Prime Minister Shah said the government’s immediate priorities were to reach affected communities, reassure them of their safety, and conduct an impartial investigation into the incidents. “The government has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to maintain law and order and prevent the situation from deteriorating further,” he added.

During the discussion, Prime Minister Shah called on all lawmakers to return to their constituencies with confidence and serve as a strong bridge between the people and the state.

He reminded the lawmakers that their true responsibility was to stand with the people during difficult situations by reaching out to communities and sharing in their hardships.

In response, the lawmakers expressed commitment to travel to their respective constituencies immediately. They also said Prime Minister Shah’s address to the nation on Thursday had sent a positive message and helped instill confidence and reassurance among people in the affected areas.

The lawmakers suggested that the government continue talks with religious leaders, civil society representatives, intellectuals and local political parties to ensure long-term peace and communal harmony at the local level.
