KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has expressed concern over the recent unrest in Kaptanganj of Dewanganj Rural Municipality in Sunsari and other affected areas.

He urged people to preserve the social, religious and ethnic harmony, tolerance, reconciliation, fraternity and national unity that Nepal has upheld for centuries.

In an appeal issued on Thursday, President Paudel said Nepal’s identity and tradition have long been rooted in social, religious and ethnic harmony, tolerance, reconciliation and fraternity. “I urge all political parties, civil society and all Nepali brothers and sisters to preserve these values, maintain peace, harmony and public order and strengthen national unity,” he said.

Paudel expressed confidence that the government would make every possible effort to restore normalcy, re-establish peace and law and order, and create an environment in which citizens can live peacefully.

“At this difficult time, I sincerely appeal to everyone to prevent the situation from becoming more complicated and to foster unity, mutual goodwill, friendship and tolerance within our communities,” the appeal reads.

Paudel also called on the concerned authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, take stern action against those responsible and ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future.

He paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the incident, extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
