Lumbini reduces number of ministries to eight

BUTWAL: The Lumbini Province Government has reduced the number of ministries from 12 to eight.

A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya made the decision on Wednesday to streamline the administrative structure and improve the government’s efficiency.

The meeting approved the Provincial Government (Allocation of Business) Regulations, 2026. As per the regulations, the provincial government will now have the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers and eight ministries.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development Ratna Bahadur Khatri said the restructuring was intended to make government operations more effective, systematic and cost-efficient.

The restructuring comes after Nepali Congress (NC) exited the provincial government.

The ruling CPN-UML has decided to bring the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) on board the ruling coalition.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet also decided to appoint Ram Prasad Pandey as Director General of the Agricultural Development Directorate and Bhaskar Paudel as Director General of the Livestock and Fisheries Development Directorate.
