KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee of the federal parliament has unanimously endorsed the nomination of Man Bahadur Karki for appointment as the Chief Election Commissioner.
The committee also unanimously approved the nominations of Rajeev Subba and Guru Prasad for Election Commissioners.
The three will now be appointed to their respective positions by President Ram Chandra Paudel
Presenting his action plan during the parliamentary hearing earlier in the day, Karki said registration of political parties that repeatedly fail to participate in elections should not be allowed to remain valid indefinitely. He said necessary provisions should be introduced to cancel the registration of parties that do not actively engage in democratic practices or contest elections.
During the hearing, Karki also pledged to review the existing legal framework governing political party registration and establish clear criteria and standards. He also proposed providing state funding to political parties on the basis of votes secured by them and other indicators to end their dependence on donations.
