Contract employees continue protest in Singha Durbar

KATHMANDU: Contract employees staged a demonstration inside the Singha Durbar complex on Wednesday, protesting the government’s plan to revise the existing provision governing the appointment of non-gazetted support staff on contract.

They said the proposed changes would make their jobs insecure and leave the future of employees who have served for many years in uncertainty.

The demonstrators urged the government to address their demands, arguing that scrapping the current arrangement would directly affect thousands of contract workers. They also called for guarantees of job security and accused the government of moving ahead with the decision unilaterally.

The employees chanted slogans against the government, demanding that it withdraw the proposed provision and make any decision only after holding sufficient consultations with all concerned stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the government has said that it is preparing to reform the public personnel management system as part of broader efforts to make the public administration more organized, efficient, and transparent.
