KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has convicted former Madhesh Province Chief Rajesh Jha, also known as Rajesh Ahiraj, in a rape case.

A single bench of District Judge Chandra Kanta Paudel delivered the verdict on Tuesday. The bench said the quantum of punishment will be determined in the next hearing.

Jha served as the Province Chief of Madhesh from February 19, 2021, to August 16, 2021. He was appointed to the position by the KP Sharma Oli-led government. He was removed from the position after a new government was formed.

The case was registered with the District Police Range, Kathmandu, on January 3, 2025. Police arrested Jha on July 20 of the same year.

The victim accused Jha of repeatedly raping her at her rented room in Kathmandu on May 17, 2024. She also alleged in her complaint that Jha threatened to kill her if she approached police.
