KATHMANDU: A task force has been formed to resolve disputes surrounding the Madhesh Province Government’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27 and other related issues.

During a meeting of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly on Sunday, Speaker Ram Ashish Yadav announced the formation of the task force.

The task force includes lawmakers Upendra Mahato, Hari Narayan Mahato, Jangilal Rai, Pramod Kumar Yadav, Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Bimala Ansari Tarun and Sarita Kumari Thakur.

The task force will formulate its own terms of reference and operating procedures.

Meanwhile, Minister for Finance Yubaraj Bhattarai has tabled the Appropriation Bill, 2026 for approval in the provincial assembly.

Speaker Yadav also announced that the provincial assembly had, by a majority vote, approved a proposal moved by lawmaker Rabindra Shrestha to suspend Sub-rules (2) and (3) of Rule 135 of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly Rules.

Following the suspension of the two sub-rules, the Speaker removed the remaining items from Sunday’s agenda.

The next meeting of the Provincial Assembly has been scheduled for 1:00 pm on Tuesday, Asar 30 (mid-July).

The provincial assembly proceedings had remained stalled since July 1 due to obstruction by opposition parties—Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, Janamat Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), demanding amendments to the budget.

The meeting had been convened to hold deliberations on the Appropriation Bill tabled by the provincial government on the same day.

Finance Minister Bhattarai had unveiled a budget of Rs 41.13 billion for fiscal year 2026/27.
