ITAHARI: Prof Dr Smriti Karki has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan.
Prime Minister Balendra Shah, who is the ex-officio Chancellor of the BPKIHS, appointed Karki to the position on Thursday.
This is the first time in BPKIHS’s history of over three decades that a woman has been appointed to the position.
Karki is a professor in the Department of Pathology of the BPKIHS. She previously served as a member of its Executive Council.
The position had been lying vacant for a long time. Karki’s appointment has come at a time when the BPKIHS has been pursuing reforms aimed at strengthening good governance, improving service delivery and enhancing institutional management.
The appointment is being viewed as a significant step toward the long-term reform and stability of the BPKIHS.
