Govinda Bahadur Karki appointed Chief Secretary

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to appoint Govinda Bahadur Karki as the next Chief Secretary.

A cabinet meeting held on Wednesday made the decision.

Karki is currently posted as the Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. He earlier served as the Director General of the Department of Tourism and Nepal’s Honorary Consul to Lhasa.

The tenure of Chief Secretary Suman Raj Aryal is ending on Thursday.

Similarly, the cabinet decided to appoint Suraj Shakya of Kathmandu as the Development Commissioner of the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority.

The meeting also decided to allow Shahid Dasharath Chanda Academy of Health Sciences to use Geta Hospital of Kailali as its teaching hospital.

Likewise, the meeting approved Foreign Education Program Operation and Regulation Guidelines, 2026; Educational Consultancies, Language Teaching and Preparation Class Operation and Management Regulations, 2026; and Prison Regulations, 2026. It also approved the Sixth National Action Plan on Human Rights and the 2nd National Strategy and Action Plan to Combat Corruption.
