Panel recommends reducing Madhesh ministries to nine

JANAKPURDHAM: A high-level task force has recommended reducing the number of ministries in the Madhesh provincial government to nine.

The task force led by provincial finance minister Yubaraj Bhattarai submitted its report to Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav on Thursday.

The panel has recommended reducing the number of ministries from the current structure to nine to make the provincial administration more efficient, cost-effective, accountable and results-oriented.

According to the report, the proposal aims to eliminate overlapping responsibilities among ministries, reduce administrative expenditure, improve the speed and effectiveness of public service delivery and strengthen fiscal discipline.

The task force also said that downsizing the provincial government structure is necessary to direct limited resources toward development and infrastructure projects.

It said the proposed restructuring is expected to improve administrative efficiency, strengthen policy coordination, promote fiscal prudence in public spending, enable one-stop service delivery, and support the expansion of digital governance.

The task force was assigned to examine the functions, responsibilities and workload of existing ministries, identify those that could be merged or restructured, and prepare a draft of the revised division of responsibilities.
