KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its gains for a second straight day, closing 8.78 points higher at 2,661.71 points on Thursday.
The benchmark index had snapped a seven-day losing streak on Wednesday, posting a 44.59-point gain—its first double-digit gain in a month. Although the index dipped early in the session and remained in negative territory, a buying spree toward the close ensured that the index finished the session in the green.
Despite the gain in the Nepse index, unit prices of 152 scrips declined, while 108 advanced and 13 remained unchanged. Likewise, total turnover slightly dropped to Rs 4.11 billion, with 8.96 million units traded across 43,131 transactions.
Among individual stocks, Upper Lohore Khola Hydropower Company Ltd and Kalanga Hydro Ltd logged the highest gains of 15% each. On the other hand, 10% NIC Asia Debenture 2085/86 posted the biggest loss of 10.6%. In terms of turnover, Laxmi Sunrise Bank Ltd recorded the highest transactions of Rs 413.22 million. 10% NIC Asia Debenture 2085/86 and Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd were next, with total turnovers of Rs 407.75 million and Rs 252.92 million, respectively.
Eight out of 13 sub-indices ended the session lower, while five posted gains. The Banking sub-index posted the biggest gain of 2.04%, while the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index logged the largest loss of 0.86%.
