KATHMANDU: Deputy Mayor of Swargadwari Municipality in Pyuthan, Niraj Rana, has died in a road accident.
The accident occurred at Bangesalla in Ward-2 of the municipality, police say.
DSP Narahari Adhikari, chief of the District Police Office, Pyuthan, said the vehicle veered off the road and fell around 400–500 meters. “We are currently at the hospital. His family members have said that he has passed away, but doctors are yet to confirm it,” he added.
According to DSP Adhikari, the vehicle under the municipality’s ownership was involved in the accident. He said preliminary information suggested that Deputy Mayor Rana was the only person inside the vehicle.
“As far as we know, he was alone in the vehicle. It appears that he was driving himself. Further investigation is underway,” he said.
