Preparations in full swing for RSP’s First National Convention [In Pictures]

KATHMANDU: The first-ever general convention of the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is only two days away.

Preparations are underway to host the convention in Bharatpur of Chitwan. Although the party had initially planned to organize the event at Hotel Star in Ratnanagar, it later shifted the venue to Bharatpur.

Workers are busy building temporary structures for the inaugural session at the Guest House Ground in Bharatpur and the closed-door session at the Industrial Exhibition Center of the Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industries. Preparations for the convention are being carried out in coordination with the party’s district and municipal committees in Chitwan, as well as its central leaders and members of the House of Representatives from the district. The party has formed 18 sub-committees to oversee the preparations for the convention.

The RSP has invited leaders of major national political parties and representatives from neighboring countries to the opening ceremony. Around 3,000 delegates from across the country are expected to participate in the closed-door sessions.

A large turnout of party leaders and cadres, as well as the general public, is expected to attend the opening session. RSP leaders estimate that around 50,000 people will attend the inaugural event.

The convention, which is being organized from June 21 to 23, will elect the party’s new Central Committee.
