Kathmandu administration orders removal of trade union offices from govt offices

KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu, has directed employee associations and organizations (trade unions) operating within government bodies in the district to remove their offices from government buildings.

Issuing a notice on Tuesday, the local administration of Kathmandu directed non-governmental technical or professional associations, organizations, and institutions of government and public offices registered with the office under the Association Registration Act, 1977, to vacate their offices operating from within government-owned buildings or structures.

The DAO Kathmandu has instructed all organizations registered under the Association Registration Act, 1977, to relocate such offices within seven days to privately owned or rented buildings and inform the office of the relocation.

Likewise, all government offices and public bodies have been directed to remove the signboards and structures of such associations from their premises and clear any areas occupied by them.

“Any association or organization found continuing to operate its office from government buildings in defiance of the order will face legal action in accordance with the law,” the office said in the notice.

The Kathmandu administration issued the notice after the Supreme Court last week refused to uphold an interim order issued earlier to halt the implementation of the government’s decision to dissolve trade unions.
