KATHMANDU: The benchmark Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing streak to a fourth consecutive session on Tuesday, shedding 6.31 points to close at 2,705.45.
The market has shown persistent weakness in recent days, posting gains only once in the past nine trading sessions. Although a modest gain of 2.57 points on June 10 snapped a four-day decline, the index has since resumed its downward trajectory with four straight losses.
The index moved into the negative territory right after trading began on Tuesday morning and came close to breaching the psychological support level of 2,700 points. After hitting an intraday loss of 2,701.74 points, however, the index pared some losses and showed signs of recovery. But Nepse lost momentum and ultimately ended 0.23% lower.
Of the total trade scrips, 80 advanced, 177 declined and 15 remained unchanged on Tuesday. Total turnover fell slightly to Rs 4.04 billion, with 10.7 million units traded through 48,116 transactions.
Among individual stocks, Sopan Pharmaceuticals posted the highest gain, hitting the 15% positive circuit. Next were Apollo Hydropower Ltd and Dolti Power Company Ltd with gains of 14.98% and 6.89%, respectively. On the other hand, Sayapatri Hydropower Ltd logged the largest loss of 4.9%. Ankhukhola Jalavidyut Company Ltd topped the turnover chart with total transactions worth Rs 319.94 million. Next were Siddhartha Bank Ltd and Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd with total turnover of Rs 182.7 million and Rs 150.52 million, respectively.
Two out of 13 sub-indies posted gains on Tuesday, while the remaining closed in the green. The Trading sub-index posted the biggest gain of 0.31%. In contrast, the Finance sub-index posted the biggest loss of 0.62%.
