Karnali brings Rs 35.39 billion budget for2026/27

KATHMANDU: The Karnali Provincial Government has presented a budget of Rs 35.39 billion for the fiscal year 2026/27.

Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Rajeev Bikram Shah presented the budget in the meeting of the Karnali Province Assembly on Monday.

The provincial government has allocated Rs 20.74 billion for capital expenditure, Rs 8.60 billion for recurrent expenditure, Rs 5.54 billion for fiscal transfer to local units in the province, and Rs 500 million for financial management.

The budget size is 7.28% larger compared to the current fiscal year’s spending plan of Rs 32.99 billion.

To finance the budget, the provincial government expects to raise Rs 850.5 million from internal revenue, while it is looking to utilize the cash balance of Rs 6.41 billion carried over from the current fiscal year.

Similarly, it expects to get Rs 10.63 billion from fiscal equalization grants, Rs 5.67 billion from conditional grants, Rs 667.8 million from complementary grants, and Rs 485.6 million from special grants from the federal government.

The budget statement states that additional resources will be mobilized if there is a shortfall in implementing programs funded through conditional grants and foreign assistance.
