KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti has said that Prime Minister Balendra Shah will respond to questions regarding his remarks on the Nepal-India border issue at an appropriate time.
Speaking to reporters on the premises of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Burlakoti said the party had informed opposition parties of the Prime Minister’s willingness to address the issue. “We have conveyed this message to the opposition parties as well, but they were unwilling to lift the obstruction of the House,” Burlakoti said. “As a result, the House meeting has been postponed until June 8.”
He expressed confidence that differences between the ruling and opposition parties would be resolved by then.
“The RSP’s position on border issues is clear. Since people from both countries are occupying areas within the no-man’s land, the matter should be resolved through diplomatic channels,” he said. “We remain firm in our position that Nepal’s territory encroached upon by India must be returned.”
Burlakoti also said that an understanding had been reached with opposition parties to prioritise discussions on the budget when the House reconvenes.
