KATHMANDU: A committee has been formed to investigate alleged misconduct by some lawmakers and damage to parliamentary property during a meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday evening.

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal formed the three-member committee under the leadership of House of Representatives Secretary Prakash Adhikari. The chiefs of the Internal Service and Planning Division and the Technology Management Division are the other members of the committee.

The committee has been given seven days to submit its report. It will examine both the conduct of lawmakers during the protest and the extent of the damage caused inside the parliamentary chamber.

Speaker Aryal said appropriate action would be taken as per the House of Representatives’ Rules based on the committee’s findings.

Opposition lawmakers had surrounded the well of the House on Sunday while Speaker Aryal proceeded with the passage of the House of Representatives Rules. According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the disruption resulted in physical damage to parliamentary facilities.
