KATHMANDU: The Madhesh Province Government has unveiled its policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27.
Province Chief Surendra Labh Karn presented the policies and programs in the meeting of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly on Friday.
The provincial government has prioritized agriculture, production, and a self-reliant economy in the policy document. It has emphasised increasing production and promoting local enterprises.
Giving priority to the agricultural sector, the provincial government has also adopted the slogan “Pride of Farmers, Pride of Madhesh” and set a target of packaging, labeling, and branding of fox nuts. The government believes this will help expand the market for local products and increase the income of local farmers.
Likewise, under the slogan “Our Own Province, Our Own Employment”, the government aims to create employment opportunities at the local level. The policy document states that an “Employer Honor” program will be introduced in the upcoming fiscal year to recognize employers and industrialists who provide jobs to at least 1,000 people.
Similarly, the provincial government is setting up the “Madhesh Startup Fund” to encourage young entrepreneurs and startups by providing technological support, concessional loans, and grants.
To expand the scope of internal taxation in the province, the government has set a goal of implementing a “Revenue Reform Programme” and coordinating with the federal government for the proper management of fiscal transfers, equalisation and conditional grants, as well as the mobilisation of internal loans.
