KATHMANDU: Two ward chairpersons elected from the Nepali Congress (NC) have lost their positions after they joined another political party.

Issuing a public notice on Thursday, the Election Commission (EC) declared the positions of Rabindra KC and Padma Bahadur Bista vacant.

The EC took the decision after the NC dismissed the two from the party and notified the EC.

KC was elected chairperson of Ward-2 of Musikot Municipality in Lumbini Province in the 2022 local level elections, while Bista was elected chairperson of Ward-3 of Dhurkot Rural Municipality, also in Lumbini Province.

As per the existing legal provisions, local representatives automatically lose their elected positions if they leave the political party from which they were elected and join another party.
