KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recommended investigating the roles of 16 Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmakers for the loss of life and property during last September’s Gen Z protests.
In its recommendation to the government, the constitutional human rights body said a detailed investigation should be conducted to determine whether they were involved in activities linked to the human and physical damage that occurred during the protests, whether their public statements provoked or inflamed demonstrators, and whether they encouraged or contributed to acts that disrupted public peace and order.
The NHRC has also recommended ensuring the accused people’s right to a fair hearing during the investigation process. Likewise, it has recommended necessary action against them if found guilty.
The lawmakers recommended for investigation include Rabi Lamichhane from Chitwan-2, Ganesh Karki from Morang-3, Sulav Kharel from Rupandehi-2, Bablu Gupta from Siraha-1, Krishna Karki from Morang-2, Toshima Karki from Lalitpur-3, Rajiv Khatri from Bhaktapur-2, Som Sharma from Baglung-2, KP Khanal from Kailali-2, Deepak Bohora from Kanchanpur-2, Manish Jha from Dhanusha-3, Sudan Gurung from Gorkha-1, Ashika Tamang from Dhading-1, Purushottam Yadav and Jwala Sangroula under the proportional representation system, Hari Dhakal from Chitwan-1, and Shiva Yadav from Siraha-2.
