KATHMANDU: Lawmakers have drawn the attention of the government to immediately resolve the border dispute between Humla and Bajura districts.
Speaking during the emergency hour of the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, lawmaker Jayapati Rokaya urged the government to seek an immediate solution to the boundary between the two Himalayan districts through talks.
“The dispute between Humla and Bajura has even led to the obstruction of the Karnali Highway. The blockage of a national highway has affected patients, students appearing for exams, and people traveling for urgent purposes,” he said. “The government must resolve the dispute through dialogue and reopen the highway without delay.”
Lawmaker KP Khanal also called the government’s attention to the mistreatment of a group, including Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Gopi Hamal, over the boundary dispute in the Ranisin area on the lap of Mount Saipal. “The Saipal area of Himali Rural Municipality is rich in medicinal herbs and wildlife. For years, smugglers have been illegally trading these resources without paying taxes,” he said. “Efforts to control such activities by establishing a police post in the area have faced obstruction.”
Khanal urged the government to ensure the safety of local residents, protect medicinal herbs, and provide treatment to the injured.
Another lawmaker, Janak Raj Giri, drew the government’s attention to a violent attack on May 18 in Bajura’s Himali-3, in which many people, including Assistant Sub-Inspector Mahesh Dhami and Chief Administrative Officer Kul Bahadur Thapa, were injured. He demanded an immediate resolution of the border dispute.
