KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee of the federal parliament unanimously approved the recommendation of Dr Manoj Sharma for Chief Justice.
A meeting of the hearing committee held on Tuesday endorsed the nomination, according to committee Chairperson Bodh Narayan Shrestha.
A meeting of the Constitutional Council held on May 7 had recommended Dr Sharma for the post of Chief Justice. He was among the six names proposed by the Judicial Council. Other justices recommended by the council included senior-most Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla, Kumar Regmi, Hari Prasad Phuyal, Dr Nahakul Subedi and Til Prasad Shrestha. Dr Sharma is fourth in the seniority of justices in the Supreme Court.
Dr Sharma’s recommendation will now be forwarded to the President for appointment as Chief Justice.
