KATHMANDU: Former minister Sudan Kirati has joined the Harka Sampang-led Sharam Sanskriti Party (SSP).

Sampang formally inducted Kirati into the party by handing him the membership certificate amid a program organized in Kathmandu on Friday.

Kirati, who became Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation from the CPN (Maoist Center), left the party to join a new political force named Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), formed at the initiative of former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai a few months before the March 5 election. He left the party a few months ago following the PDP’s poor performance in the election.

Speaking on the occasion, Kirati said he aligned himself with the SSP in response to the people’s desire for reformist forces to unite. and out of a sense of responsibility toward the current situation. Kirati also said he would correct past shortcomings and work with greater accountability toward the nation and its people.

Welcoming Kirati into the party, Sampang said that their party was the only one working with genuine commitment to the country. “There is a need to bring more youth into the party and continue the campaign of nation-building,” he said, adding that the SSP was built not for any individual but for the people.
