Nepse back to losing ways; turnover drops to Rs 3.19 billion

KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index, which snapped a four-day losing run on Tuesday, returned to losing ways, posting a nominal loss on Wednesday.

The index shed 1.64 points to close at 2,711.22 points.

Although the index moved into the green after declining during early trading, it pared all the gains and hit an intraday low of 2,705.79 points. A late buyout erased some losses, but the index still closed in the red.

Unit prices of 149 scrips declined during the session, while 104 advanced and 15 remained unchanged. Among individual indices, Forward Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd posted the biggest gain of 13.74%, while Bhagawati Hydropower Development Company logged the biggest loss of 8.9%. Solu Hydropower Ltd topped the turnover chart with shares worth Rs 221.15 million traded. Next were Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd and National Hydropower Company Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 160.78 million and Rs 124.11 million, respectively.

Total turnover fell further to Rs 3.19 billion, with 7.13 million units traded through 47,841 transactions.

Eight sub-indices posted gains during the session, while the remaining ended in the red. The biggest gain came from the Mutual Fund sub-index, which was up 0.8%. On the other hand, the Development Bank sub-index suffered the biggest loss of 0.51%.
