KATHMANDU: The government has decided to recommend to the President to summon a session of the federal parliament on May 11.
A cabinet meeting held on Tuesday took the decision, according to Government Spokesperson and Minister for Education, Science and Technology Education Sasmit Pokharel. He said the meeting had decided to recommend convening both houses of parliament at 2 pm on May 11.
The summer session is also known as the budget session. The government is constitutionally bound to present the fiscal budget in the joint session of parliament on May 28.
Earlier, a session scheduled for Baisakh April had been postponed citing special reasons. After the session was postponed, the government recommended that the president issue eight ordinances.
Although the decision drew criticism from all quarters, with some viewing the move as an attempt to bypass parliament, the President issued all ordinances.
