KATHMANDU: The death toll in the Rolpa jeep accident has risen to 20.
According to the District Police Office, Rolpa, at least 20 people died when a passenger jeep plunged off a cliff near Jaljala on Thursday.
The accident occurred at Jaljala in Thawang Rural Municipality-1 when the jeep coming from Rukum East toward Rolpa veered off the road and fell some 800 meters down a steep hillside.
Police say 20 bodies have been recovered so far.
According to Rishi Keshav Budha Magar, chairperson of Thawang Rural Municipality, the cause of the accident has yet to be ascertained. “The road is steep and unpaved. It was also raining, but I don’t know the exact cause of the accident,” Magar said.
