KATHMANDU: At least 17 people died in a road accident in Rolpa on Thursday.
According to the District Police Office, a passenger jeep plunged some 800 meters off a cliff at Jaljala in Thawang Rural Municipality-1 of Rolpa.
The ill-fated vehicle was heading toward Jaljala from Rukum East when it veered off the road and fell down the steep terrain.
There were 20 people on board the jeep, according to Rishi Keshav Budha Magar, chairperson of Thawang Rural Municipality.
“The road is steep and unpaved. It was also raining, but I don’t know the exact cause of the accident,” Magar said.
