KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index slipped 33.83 points to close trading at 2,833.03 points on Thursday.
The benchmark, which snapped a two-day losing run with a 33.27-point gain on Wednesday, erased the previous day’s gains and closed 1.18% lower.
The index fell into the negative territory right after trading began on Thursday morning and stayed in the red throughout the session. The bearish trend in the market was reflected in market breadth, with unit prices of 236 stocks declining on Thursday, while 31 advanced and three remained unchanged.
Despite the Nepse index’s decline, unit prices of five scrips, most of them newly-listed ones, hit the positive circuit of 10%. Total turnover fell slightly to Rs 9.31 billion compared to the previous session, with 20.74 million units traded through 111,607 transactions.
Among individual stocks, Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd led the turnover chart with total transactions of Rs 618.04 million. Next were National Hydropower Company Ltd and SY Panel (Nepal) Ltd with turnovers of Rs 555.96 million and Rs 516.01 million, respectively.
All sectoral indices ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Finance sub-index, which was down by 1.98%. The Others and Manufacturing & Processing sub-indices were next with losses of 1.9% and 1.54%, respectively.
