Ambassador Sharma calls for more Indian investment

KATHMANDU: Nepali ambassador to India, Dr Shankar Prasad Sharma, has urged Indian and diaspora Nepali entrepreneurs to explore new opportunities in Nepal as the investment-friendly environment in Nepal is gradually strengthening.

Addressing the “Indo-Nepal Business Trade and Trade Promotion Initiative” organized in Thane by the Mumbai Chapter of the Everest Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ECCI), the umbrella organization for Nepali industrialists and entrepreneurs in India, he reiterated that the formation of a stable government after the recent elections has created a reliable environment for investment in Nepal.

“Since Nepal now has a government with a near two-thirds majority, the time is ripe for expanding business, investment, and economic activities,” he said.

He also stressed the need to further strengthen bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Nepal and India, citing hydropower, tourism, agriculture, medicinal herbs, and information technology as sectors with high potential.

Also speaking on the occasion, ECCI President Yubaraj Baral said that ECCI would act as a bridge to expand investments between Nepal and India. He added that the chamber was conducting a detailed study on investment possibilities and procedures.

During the event, Rajkumar Baral, founder and patron of ECCI Mumbai, emphasized the need for unity and collaboration among Nepali entrepreneurs living abroad.

Meanwhile, ECCI Maharashtra has elected a new 15-member committee under the leadership of Sunil Baral.
