KATHMANDU: Newly-appointed Attorney General Dr Narayan Dutta Kandel has taken the oath of office and secrecy.
Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla administered the oath to Kandel amid a ceremony at the Supreme Court on Sunday.
Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam was also present on the occasion.
President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Dr Kandel to the position on the recommendation of Prime Minister Balendra Sharma.
Kandel replaces Sabita Bhandari Baral, who stepped down with the formation of the new government. He holds a PhD in law from Queen’s University Belfast in the UK.
Kandel, who hails from Baglung, started his professional career in journalism and later studied law. He previously served as legal counsel to Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane, who is facing cooperative fraud, money laundering, and organized crime charges.
