KATHMANDU: Newly-elected Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal took the oath of office and secrecy on Sunday.
President Ram Chandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to Aryal amid a ceremony at the Office of the President on Sunday afternoon.
Earlier, Arjun Narsingh, chairing the House of Representatives meeting as the senior-most member, declared that Aryal has been elected to the position unopposed.
Only Aryal, a vice president of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), had filed his nomination for the post of Speaker on Friday.
Since RSP enjoys a near two-thirds majority in the lower house, other parties were reluctant to field their candidates in the election.
