Sampang says SSP will fielded woman candidate for Deputy Speaker

rka The Shram Sanskriti Party (SSP) has said that it would field a woman candidate for the election of the Deputy Speaker.

In a social media post, SSP Chairperson Harka Sampang Rai said his party would field a woman candidate for the position. “We have already congratulated the new Speaker who is being elected unopposed,” Sampang wrote. “In the election for the Deputy Speaker, we are fielding a woman candidate.”

Sampang has expressed optimism that the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) will support his candidate.

RSP is the largest party in the 275-member House of Representatives with 182 seats, while SSP has just seven seats.

RSP Vice President Dol Prasad Aryal will be formally declared elected to the post of Speaker on Sunday as no other nominations were filed for the position on Friday.
RSP, which enjoys a strong majority in the lower house, however, cannot field its candidate for the election of the Deputy Speaker as the constitution requires the Speaker and Deputy Speaker to be from different parties and genders.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) is also eyeing the post of Deputy Speaker.
