SURKHET: The family of Inisha BK (16) received her body on Thursday, 27 days after her alleged rape and murder.
The family received the body from the morgue after the Surkhet District Court decided to send the four juveniles accused in the judicial custody in a juvenile correction facility. A single bench of District Judge Deepak Dhakal issued the order on Tuesday.
According to court officials, the decision to remand the four was based on the seriousness of the complaint and preliminary evidence.
The court also directed authorities to ensure security for the victim’s family and witnesses. It also asked officials to make necessary arrangements for one of the accused to sit for the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) that began on Thursday.
Inisha, a resident of Birendranagar Municipality-1, had left her home on March 7, saying that she was going to tuition classes. She was later found unconscious in a community forest in Birendranagar-4 and was declared dead at Karnali Province Hospital.
Police initially detained a 16-year-old boy described as her boyfriend and later arrested three others based on his statement. While the accused claimed she lost consciousness due to excessive bleeding after sexual contact, the District Government Attorney’s Office filed a charge sheet accusing them of gang rape followed by murder.
The family had refused to receive the body until progress was made in the case.
