NC’s Khadka, Shekhar faction holds gathering with lawmakers

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Purna Bahadur Khadka has urged newly elected lawmakers of the party to play an effective and exemplary role in Parliament.

Addressing a program in Kathmandu on Monday to congratulate members of both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly from his party, Khadka said their role in Parliament should be impactful and set a standard. He also advised lawmakers to present themselves strongly in Parliament in line with the party’s history and ideals, as well as in the interest of the country and its people.

Khadka, a former Vice President of the party, has been claiming to be the Acting President of the party. His faction has been claiming that the Central Working Committee led by Gagan Kumar Thapa lacks legitimacy. A case questioning the legality of the party’s Special General Convention, which elected the committee under Thapa, is currently sub judice.

“While our party may be smaller in terms of numbers in parliament, you are carrying the legacy of the country’s democratic movement. Your role is of high significance,” he told lawmakers.

Another NC leader, Dr. Shekhar Koirala, expressed confidence that the party’s lawmakers would always prioritize national issues. He said discussions with lawmakers would continue as before and pledged full support from leaders outside Parliament.

Leaders like Bimalendra Nidhi, Prakash Man Singh, Bal Bahadur KC, Dr Shashank Koirala, NP Saud, Dr Minendra Rijal and Mahalaxmi Upadhyaya, among others, were also present on the occasion.
