KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu hosted a reception to mark the 55th Anniversary of Bangladesh’s Independence and National Day on Friday.
Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav attended the event as the chief guest. The reception was also attended by ambassadors and heads of mission accredited to Nepal, ministers and political leaders, senior government officials, members of civil society and think tanks, business leaders, media representatives, and members of the Bangladeshi community in Nepal.
In his address, Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal Md Shafiqur Rahman paid tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives during Bangladesh’s nine-month Liberation War. He also expressed appreciation to the government and people of Nepal for their moral and material support during the war.
Congratulating Nepal’s new government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Ambassador Rahman expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would deepen further during its tenure.
During the event, banners were displayed supporting the candidacy of Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman for the presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (2027–2028).
